About This Site
When I was about six a TV series began on BBC One at 7.15pm on a Sunday evening. Because of my all consuming love of animals I was allowed to stay up and watch it. One By One was the name of the TV show and it has remained as one of the loves of my life since.
It was only fleeting as the series only lasted for three series spread over four years but I managed to keep copies of them on old VHS tapes that I have kept for 30 years.
In junior school I won a writing competition at the age of 9 and was given a book called "Animal Monsters" by David Taylor, who I wasn't aware of at the time. A relative then bought me another called "Animal Assassins". This kickstarted my interest in David Taylor the author.
Then when I was 11 and started senior school I was helping out in the library (I have always been a bookworm) and caught a title out of the corner of my eye. Intrigued I took it off the shelf and booked it out. It happened to be Zoovet by David Taylor and it started a lifelong love of his books, both autobiographical and otherwise.
A year or so later I found a harback copy of his fourth autobiography "The Wandering Whale" again in the school library. Later on I found a copy of the second volume "Doctor In The Zoo" in the for sale section at my local library for ten pence. Not too long later I found a different copy of the same book brand new, in a local shop that sold bits of everything for twenty pence. This time the copy had a photo cover from the TV show.
My mum and dad then bought me my treasured copy of "The Complete One By One" for which I will forever be grateful.
Since then I have picked up ALL of his autobiographies in different places and, sad as I am, even different versions of them. I have also amassed quite a few of his other books.
I hope this site gives you as much pleasure as it does to me.
